In the past few weeks I've learned quite a bit about Italian cuisine. The flavors that I've prepared my Italian dishes came from growing up in a diverse city which allowed me to experience and learn these flavors. My journey continues as I fill in the details, learning how the culture influence these flavors. Thank you Ms Rago for alowing me to be part of this group that helps us explore all the wonderful ingredients and challenges us to recreate some authentic dishes!
Here's another great day to celebrate! The article is from Ansa.it, the Italian online news site, and the link is below:
"Pesto Day set to be celebrated - Genoa wants EU laurel for famed specialty
Over 2,000 participating restaurants in roughly 40 countries will honor real Genovese pesto on January 17, marking the fourth annual International Day of Italian Cuisine (IDIC). Genovese pesto was chosen as the official dish of IDIC 2011, a worldwide celebration of authentic Italian food that will even see pesto-based Ligurian specialties served on 14 ships of the Italian cruise company Costa Crociere."
As there is no official calendar of official Italian Food Days, we at Cooking with Nonna have taken the liberty to undertake such a project. To each day of the year, a food product or a specific Italian recipe/dish will be assigned based on factors such as the product or the ingredients being in season, or they are tied to an historical or religious tradition. All foods should be sourced with the utmost respect for the Land and Sea of origin. We hope that you will share in the enthusiasm of this project.
